It is always great to see children's laughter:) They run, they bump into each other
and then they laugh. They laugh for the simple happiness and they laugh
genuinely from their heart.
They are the best reminder for us. They remind us how simple can happiness be. All
of us were like that. Then we got so contaminated by all the despair, all the let-downs, and hurtful things done by people we encountered in life.
Since the day we knew someone has better than what we have, we started to
feel sad and upset. We no longer feel content of what we have. Our health, our
family and our comfortable living in a well developed world no longer satisfy
us. We lost our gratefulness to life. This is the core of our sorrow to life.
We were once able to have the purest form of happiness as a child. We marvelled at the wonders in the world – the nature, the earth, the stars, the love from our parents, the lovely sharing between our little buddies, our hands and feet, everything was good! We liked so much our little kiddo science lessons, but then everyone went to study business in college. Because we wanted more. Don't get me wrong. Business is good if the business itself targets to
serve customers in a righteous way as it is just a form of resources
exchange. But business drives by greed is utterly terrible. it's all
about the driving force behind.
It really would make no sense if maturity makes us envy and greedy, rather
than feel even more grateful for what we already have. However at the same time, that proves a simpler
life leads to greater happiness. The more you acquire, the more you worry. The more you get, the more you need. Try ask yourself truthfully – Do you really need that, that much, to be happy? It is silly to say yes when the answer is obviously no.
You might argue, gratefulness is just an excuse of not making better use of
life, and settling for less. But the truth is, people with this philosophy
are exactly embracing the fullness of life! Who else are embracing life if not them? People with gratefulness live for a different reason – decency, love and excellence. Being grateful of what they have saves them from the need to seek attention (fame), excitement
(Lust) and glamour (Gluttony) in order to feel happy. They get the true joy
from being decent, loving and grateful.
In the long history of humanity,
only these people left real legacy after they died.
We human flesh is weak to choose the good from the bad. We all have the
conscience to know what is a good life with a good purpose; but often we are
unable to choose the good way. We chose bad ways, all of us did or are
doing. We were okay in life, but at the same time felt like chasing wind. We are too used to live like this in this modern world (really? it looks like pretty much the same as in the days of Jeremiah!).
'' 'From the least to the greatest,
their lives are ruled by greed. From prophets to priests, they are all
frauds. They offer superficial treatments for my people's mortal wound.
They give assurances of peace when there is no peace. Are they ashamed
of their disgusting actions? Not at all – they don't even know how to
blush. Therefore, they will lie among the slaughtered. They will be
brought down when I punish them,' says the Lord. This is what the Lord
says: 'Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, Godly
way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your
souls.' But you reply, 'no that's not the road we want!' '' Jeremiah
6:13 – 16
After all these years, I can truly say that the bad way or the less wise way – to get fame, lust
and glamour can only lead to short term ecstasy..only the good way will
bring long lasting real happiness. The process of acquiring riches is like any kind of addictive neurotic drugs, the amount you get
will NEVER be enough…sadly. You always need more to boost up the same
level of excitement. I once fell apart coz I was tempted to choose the bad way, but I am grateful that I am on the right track again!
“See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!” Psalm 52:7
I was once that person!
Living with gratefulness is a form of worship to God. It is the only way to divine happiness – the same of which we are going to enjoy forever in heaven.
The longer we indulge ourselves in the bad way, the emptier we will feel
and the less time we will have to find the real happiness…!
So, why wait?:)
